Two Poems

J.J. Palomares

WE KNOW IT WELL

Sometimes I hear the voice of the immemorial
Incontrovertible things that have been certain
And I search for the equilibrium
Stepping back and forth
And can’t attain the depths you inhabit.

My skin knows yours
They know each other
And they like each other.
We know it well
And sometimes we regret
The walked way
Because it has not been the way,
Because these have not been our feet.

We know it well
The sky has witnessed us
Playing under the rain,
Under the sunlight,
And the birds…
Nightingales not pigeons
Have sung our hymn.
They have also seen us
Dreaming together,
Living dreams together.

However, we must meet at the green hour,
In the fresh afternoon,
At the right place,
At the right time,
And we got there late.

Sometimes I hear the yelling of the real time,
The incontrovertible present reality.
And I get to comprehend well
That I missed the date
and the address
And you.

NEVER BECAUSE

Why is always a good question.
But, is it so
When there is no because.
Regret, hopelessness, despair and sorrow
Attack again
With their sharp spears
My nerves.
They remind me of those old days
When your presence.
These days, days in which you are no more
It is completely useless,
Even impolite,
Evil,
Asking about you.
You are no longer,
And there was never,
there is never,
there will be never
even a single because.
